Bird Buddy troubleshooting

Short answer

Most Bird Buddy problems are fixed by three steps from Bird Buddy's own support: charge with a USB-C to USB-C cable for at least 30 minutes, restart the camera and your router, and if it's still offline, remove BUDDY from your phone's Bluetooth and reconnect.

Bird Buddy won't charge

  1. Use a USB-C to USB-C cable and a decent charger. Bird Buddy says USB-A to USB-C cables can charge slowly or not at all.
  2. Check the port for dirt or water and that the small tongue inside isn't damaged.
  3. Charge on a flat surface without moving the cable.
  4. If the LED shows activity but the app says it isn't charging, the camera is probably offline, not broken. Reconnect it (below).

Bird Buddy is offline

  1. Turn the camera off: press the button for about 2 seconds until the light is solid red, then release.
  2. Restart your router and wait at least a minute.
  3. Turn the camera on: press the button for 1 second. The light turns solid green for 3 seconds.
  4. Check Wi-Fi strength at the feeder with your phone. Weak signal is the most common cause.

Reconnect or factory reset the camera

  1. Charge the camera for at least 30 minutes.
  2. On your phone, open Bluetooth settings and remove BUDDY if it's listed.
  3. Press and hold the camera button. The light turns solid red, then blinks. Keep holding until it's solid red again, then release.
  4. Add the camera again in the Bird Buddy app.
